Principal's Message

I feel immensely privileged to steer Visakha Vidyalaya which has established itself as the pinnacle of girls education in Sri Lanka. The serene outlook coupled with rich cultural values that had been cherished for over a century, are the reflection of the revelation of foresight of the founder of Visakha Vidyalaya, the great philanthropist Mrs. Jeremias Dias.

Since the inception in 1917 as a Buddhist School for girls, the past principals of Visakha Vidyalaya were tirelessly committed in pursuing the vision of the founder, to harness and nurture rich ethical values enshrined in Buddhist philosophy. The illustrated accomplishments and highly acclaimed performances of past pupils, speak volumes for esteemed professionalism and sheer dedication of teachers of Visakha Vidyalaya throughout its history. Apart from the state-of the art features, the natural environment of Visakha Vidyalaya facilitates the entire school community, to pursue academic and extracurricular activities quite conveniently in achieving outstanding successes.

However, as the newly appointed principal I am determined to develop my students to their full potential, to the best standards of humanity and make them responsible citizens for the country. Students’ potentials are broad and diverse for which we at Visakha Vidyalaya cater to and respect. It is our responsibility to nurture the creative spirit inherent in every child. A variety of facilities and opportunities are provided to our students so that they may polish their skills and maximize their potential. Their ability to produce work of a superlative nature is what never ceases to amaze us.  In keeping with the global trends and evolution of technologies, we will have to devote more time and effort to remodel strategies and methods, to prepare Visakhians for future encounters.

Our students are our strength and inspiration. Therefore, I and my staff will work hard to give value to your decision of choosing this school for your daughter. At Visakha Vidyalaya your daughter’s wellbeing is at the very heart of everything we do.

We wish to produce leaders, innovators and change agents for the 21st century who will take up future challenges with confidence. I invite all well-wishers to join hands with the school and be our strength to carry out our mission and the commitment.

The active participation of The Visakha Vidyalaya Old Girls’ Association and the School Development Society are highly appreciated towards the progress and wellbeing of the school.
