All Island Schools Swimming Championship organized in line with the National School Games accredited under the Ministry of Education; was held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Swimming Pool Complex on 3rd and 4th August 2016 with the participation of over 100 schools.
Visakha was leading the Girls’ table from day one finishing the event with a total of 70 points at the end while Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy secured the runners-up spot with 36 points. Visakha’s very own swimming prodigy - Ramudi Samarakoon set the tone for the championship on the day one; winning the first gold medal on offer that was for the ‘Girls’ Under 15 – 200m Individual Medley’. She finished second in the ‘Girls’ Under 15 – Backstroke’ event. The excitement intensified during the relay events Visakhians took the ‘Under 19 - 200m Medley’ relay and the ‘Under 19 –200m Medley’ relay while Mahamaya won only the Under 17 200m Medley.
On the second day; Ramudi bagged another gold with her winning of the ‘Under 15 Girls’ 100m Freestyle’ event. Making it to the history; Visakha clean swiped all of the relay events on the second day winning everything on offer. The Visakhian under 15, under 17 and under 19 relay teams won their respective ‘200m Freestyle’ relays, which were one of the rare occasions where a single school had the privilege of winning all three relay events on the same day.
