Visakha Retains National Tennis Titles 2016

Visakha Vidyalaya retained their National School Games Under 19 Tennis Championship title defeating Ladies’ College at the National School Games Tennis Championship organized by the Ministry of Education. The tournament was held from 03rd – 05th September; at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts with the participation of over 20 schools from around the island competing for the prestigious silverware.

The under 19 tennis championship is a team event where each school plays two singles and a doubles encounter, and the respective teams are drawn accordingly prior to the tournament. 

The extraordinary performance of the tennis stars of Visakha; Nethmi Waduge and Hasindhi Lokuge led the way to Visakha’s victory ensuring that the silverware is retained within the school for another year. Setting the winning tone; Nethmi went on to defeat Anika Seneviratne of Ladies College for 7-5 and 6-3 to take the first Single while Hasindhi whitewashed Sethara Ambawatte of Ladies College for 6-0 and 6-0 to win the final tie 2-0.

With this win; Visakha finished off their tennis season in style taking home the ‘All Island National Schools’ Under 19 Title’ as well as the ‘National School Games Trophy’.
