Visakha Marks 100 Years of Excellence!

Visakha Vidyalaya; undoubtedly the most sought after girls’ school in Sri Lanka marked its centenary year in 2017.  The celebrations started with a blissful Bodhi Puja at the Visakha Bo Maluwa on 16th January 2017, which is officially the school’s date of birth. It was quite heartening to see Visakhians around the country gathered around the most sacred and closest place to their hearts to celebrate the 100th birthday of their beloved Alma Mater.

A commemorative stamp and a first day cover were launched to mark this special milestone in the school history at an event held at the Jeremias Dias Hall of Visakha Vidyalaya on 16th January. Speaker of the Parliament – Hon. Karu Jayasuriya graced the occasion as the Chief Guest where Hon. Duleep Wijesekera; the Deputy Minister of Post, Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs issued the commemorative coin and the first day cover to the Principal of Visakha Vidyalaya – Ms. Sandamali Aviruppola.
