Organized jointly by the Old Girls’ Association of Visakha Vidyalaya and the School Development Committee; Visakha Centenary Walk hit the roads on 11th February 2017.
All proceeds collected from this fund raising event will be invested in the proposed Primary School Building which is a gift from the Old Girls’ Association of Visakha Vidyalaya to the school on the event of its 100 year anniversary.
The walk commenced around 8.30 a.m. with the Principal – Ms. Sandamali Aviruppola releasing hundreds of blue and gold balloons. Past principals, past and present deputy principals, past and present teachers and students; both past and present, participated in this event.
The walk proceeded along Vajira Road to Galle Road; turn to Bauddhaloka Mawatha at the Bambalapitiya Junction and to Havelock Road at Thunmulla and came back to school through Vajira Road. It accompanied a vehicle parade and the school band and it was well represented by all the batches from 1950-60s to 2016.
A massive crowd of over 10,000 participants made this indeed the walk of the century. It was heartwarming to see Visakhians – both past and present; dressed in the Visakha centenary t-shirt dancing their hearts out.
With all this excitement; Visakha Centenary Walk concluded around 1.00 p.m. making it to the history as a Walk to Remember!
