100 Years of excellence of Visakha Vidyalaya was marked with the launch of a Centenary Commemorative Coin on 23rd January 2017. The ceremony was held under the patronage of the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena where the President was warmly received by the Visakhians when he arrived at the school.
Visakhians – both new and old; were gathered at this elegant and graceful event to mark the exceptional milestone of their beloved Alma Mater. Visakha Commemorative Coin was presented to the President by the Governor of the Central Bank - Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy. This glamorous event was graced by distinguished guests including Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media – Hon. Gayantha Karunathilaka, Secretary of the Ministry of Education - Mr. Sunil Hettiarachchi and Deputy Governor of Central Bank – Mr. Nandalal Weerasinghe.
With the launch of this Centenary Commemorative Coin; Visakha Vidyalaya became the first girls’ school in the island to issue a commemorative coin at its centenary year. The Principal – Ms. Sandamali Aviruppola, staff, parents, students and old girls participated at this event which concluded as yet another memorable celebration of Visakha’s Centenary.
